Campaign Field Organizer

If so, we need YOU for our robust political program during the upcoming election year by conducting critical field work and assisting our political department! The Oregon Labor Federation, AFL-CIO represents over 300,000 working Oregonians. Our mission is to improve the lives of our members and all workers, and to raise the standard of living for all Oregonians through collective bargaining, advocacy, and political education and outreach. 

This position will support staff with volunteer recruitment for canvasses, phone banks, and other field events. They will also do direct voter contact, coordinate logistics, develop tracking systems, lead trainings, and help oversee field programs during the General Elections. We’re looking for candidates with campaign experience and exemplary election field work skills who are passionate about advocating for working people. The Oregon Labor Federation is a multifaceted labor organization, and as a fully integrated member of the team, you will be required to assist with other program areas as needed in addition to the political campaign efforts. 

Schedule, Compensation & Location 

  • This is a full-time temporary position, beginning in September 2026 and ending in November. 
  • Salary is $5000 – $6000 per month in addition to generous benefits. 
  • The Campaign Field Organizer will be expected to lead and participate in voter outreach canvasses on weekends as well as phone banks on weekday evenings from home, with additional voter outreach shifts expected during the final week of both the primary and general elections. Given this, a valid drivers’ license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
  • The Campaign Field Organizer will work at the Oregon AFL-CIO’s office in SE Portland at least three weekdays per week. Required in-person days are Monday and Thursday, with the third day of your choice. 

Responsibilities & Duties 
Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Assist political field staff with the recruitment and retention of volunteers
  • Train volunteers on how to use the canvass and phone bank technologies and how to talk with voters, and be on point for any questions during some of the field events
  • Participate in the Oregon AFL-CIO field program by doing direct voter contact
  • Coordinate logistics with the field team in advance of direct voter contact events including writing voter contact scripts, utilizing voter and union member databases, and preparing the physical materials 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license and access to a car are required
  • Project management and detail-oriented
  • A positive, team-player attitude
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and leadership skills
  • Willingness to work evenings and frequent weekends
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently in a fast-moving campaign environment
  • Strong commitment to economic, racial and gender justice
  • Excellent References 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience on political campaigns
  • Familiarity with the labor movement, movements for progressive social change and political or issue campaigns 
  • Proficient with VAN, Google Docs and Excel 
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Russian or Vietnamese
