Organization Description: The United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada (UA) represents approximately 390,000 Plumbers, Pipefitters, Sprinkler Fitters, HVACR Service Technicians, Welders and Pipeliners working in the construction industry throughout North America. 

Job Location: Annapolis, Maryland. Occasional travel is required.

Job Description: This is a full-time, on-site position which plays a vital role in supporting the daily financial operations of the UA Accounting Department. It operates under the direction of the Assistant to the Comptroller and in alignment with the executive oversight of the Comptroller. The annual salary range is $65,000 to $85,000, based on experience. 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform bank reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies in preparation for review.
  • Communicate with banks to address and resolve a variety of issues.
  • Prepare monthly investment analysis and reconciliations.
  • Maintain and update the fixed asset schedule as required.
  • Provide bookkeeping support for various funds, ensuring accurate record-keeping. 
  • Assist in the management of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly invoices related to various shared services agreements.
  • Record journal entries into accounting software.
  • Analyze property management reports and record activity into accounting software.
  • Prepare monthly Pension Contribution invoices and funds Distribution Reconciliation.
  • Provide thorough payroll support which includes:
    • Processing bi-weekly payroll for both U.S. and Canadian employees and complete annual filings.
    • Reconciling bi-weekly hours for U.S. employees.    
  • Provide support for the processing of Burial Benefits.
  • Prepare and provide necessary financial documentation and records in a timely manner to assist with both internal and external audits.
  • Collaborate on various accounting related projects as required.
  • UA Convention support:
    • Process delegate payments and committee reimbursements
    • Research costs associated with travel across North America
    • Issue 1099s and T-4As
  • Prepare quarterly account revaluations for financial statements to ensure the accuracy of financial statements.

The following qualifications are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of accounting experience with a solid grasp of standard accounting policies and practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in non-profit/labor union accounting preferred.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and ADP.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision; possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; highly self-motivated.
  • Ability to prioritize work in an efficient manner and meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and grammatical skills; strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion.
  • Eager to learn and collaborate effectively with team members.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a three-shift work schedule: 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM and 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The work schedule for this position will be mutually agreed upon at time of hire.

This position is indoors in an office environment and covered under a Union collective bargaining agreement with Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), Local 2. The agreement will cover certain terms and conditions of employment, which may change through collective bargaining negotiations. As a condition of employment, the individual filling this position will become a member of the bargaining unit and pay applicable dues or service fees to OPEIU Local 2 after a six-month probationary period that starts at date of employment.
