The Legal Secretary/Paralegal position has the overall responsibility of supporting multiple attorneys with clerical and paralegal level functions. The incumbent is expected to prioritize responsibilities and work independently and cooperatively within established timelines.

- Provides support to multiple attorneys in administrative and litigation matters.
- Drafts legal documents such as pleadings, court forms, and contracts.
- Summarizes cases and prepares reports for attorneys.
- Electronically files documents in Federal and State Court.
- Monitors status of open cases including court deadlines and client developments.
- Keeps track of changes in legal framework and provides updates as needed.
- Maintains personal, shared, and attorney calendars and files as needed.
- Coordinates and schedules virtual and in person meetings as needed.
- Performs research as needed.
- Assists clients with public records requests.
- Performs general clerical duties including, but not limited to typing and mailing correspondence, processing incoming and outgoing mail and packages, fulfilling client requests, copying, faxing, filing (physical and digital), and other job duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: To perform the Legal Secretary/Paralegal position successfully, the incumbent needs proficiency in the following areas:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level reading comprehension skills.
- Strong computer skills, including general knowledge of computers and associated applications like Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Ability to use office equipment including printers, copiers, and mail machines.
- Basic research skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Time management and ability to prioritize projects for multiple attorneys and clients.
- Exercising sound judgment, discretion, confidentiality and ability to compare and evaluate multiple courses of action.
- Ability to learn and apply new skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to a high level of professionalism.
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior knowledge of and support for the labor movement.
- Familiarity with labor and employment law or collection matters.
- Previous experience using databases such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Secretary of State Business Search, etc. preferred.
Direction and Decision Making: This position reports to the Managing Partner of the firm, takes direction from multiple attorneys, works collaboratively and independently, and keeps attorneys apprised of developments on assigned projects.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a law office required.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience with litigation required.
- College degree or relevant certificate is a bonus, but not required.
Physical Requirements (as required by the ADA): Work is performed in-person in an office environment. Regular work is mostly sedentary with tasks carried out at a desk. Must be able to lift and carry 10 pounds with or without assistance.
Salary: $42.55 per hour
Benefits: This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 986 providing the following:
- 7-hour workday
- 1-hour lunch (unpaid)
- Weekly pay
